There were a lot of rumors stating that Mafia Wars 1 would eventually
close soon after the release of Mafia Wars 2. << This isn't true.
Why? Mafia Wars 2 seems to be failing and losing players at a huge speed.
Take a look at the Daily/Monthly Active Users of both the Mafia Wars 1 and Mafia Wars 2.

On the 2nd of September, the number of users playing daily(DAU) spiked above 1 million upon the reopening of Cuba, you can find the post here:

Today(6 September), the number of users playing daily dropped below 1million again!

And the numbers for DAU, WAU, MAU continues to drop....
A few days ago, i've published a post that informs you that Mafia Wars have dropped to below 1 million daily active users.

Upon the reopening of Cuba, the statistics of Mafia Wars spiked up to above 1 million daily active users again.
The day before the reopening of Cuba stats can be seen below:
You can see that the number of Daily Active Users fell below 1 million.

Most players are irritated and decided to quit the game. New players who just joined the game are most probably also leaving the moment they see the limited time mission/events going on.
