Some families whom took advantage of a glitch, were able to fight this boss previously even before it was released.
There are also 5 new Superior loot items which you may receive for defeating the boss.

when does the timer begin for the raid to end? When the boss appears or once a family member enters the fight?
Timer begins when the boss fight is started :)
