I think lots of Mafia Wars players leave this game and watch the soccer match..
Still to celebrate the two years of this game, they create another event this Friday.. Mafia Wars Global Cup! Hoping that Mafia Wars fan will still playing the game after the match is over..It looks like we have to find the missing part of the cup (fix the cup?), earn a special collection and score a trophy! So this is not dealing with loot drop or else.. I guess we will have a limited time job, just like the Easter, etc.. just a guess!

I believe in this context, "Fix" is intended to mean bribing teams/officials etc to guarantee a certain winner so us mafia people can bet in the Vegas casinos and win big.
