One of my best mafia has contacted Zynga Customer Support via Live Chat and got a good response!
"I understand that you have a problem with the event 50,000 Feet as it ended earlier than the prescribed time.
I have accessed your account and sent the Laser Prototype to your account."
Yes! 
Naah, if you have run out of time and the feature is gone from your account, you are still able to claim the mastery reward by submitting a ticket to Support team or the quickest way is to have a conversation via chat.

Wow, that's so unfair. I was so close to finishing, and there was no indication that it was expiring soon. Why should I have to contact Zynga support? They should let the event run to its normal completion.
It ended right when it said it would... i played the last hour and finished it up.
That's the answer of Zynga when i contacted them *argh* and i didn't get the gun...
